The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Board itself to serve terms of three years. Terms are staggered to maintain continuity, but a number of Board seats come up for appointment each year as terms expire.

The EMA Board meets three times yearly, in the spring, summer and in the fall. The Board terms end at the summer meeting, and, immediately following, the new Board meets and newly-elected Directors are introduced. At that time, the newly reconfigured Board selects a Chairman and other Board officers.
