2012 Applications Now Being Accepted for EMA Scholarship Foundation

ENCINO, CALIFORNIA (January 10, 2012) ... The EMA Scholarship Foundation is now accepting applications from eligible students within the EMA-member family. Academic scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students who will be attending college on a full-time basis. Awardees will receive up to $6,000 total, which will be issued in annual increments. Scholarship applications, which are available at, are due by March 1, 2012. 

“College tuition is a significant burden for most families, and EMA is pleased to be able to assist the employees of our members in paying for higher education,” said EMA President and CEO Bo Andersen. “Thanks to the EMA member companies that contribute to the EMA Scholarship Foundation, the Association has been able to provide more than $1,000,000 in scholarship awards since the program’s inception.”

EMA’s Scholarship competition is open each year to high-school seniors who will be entering college as freshmen in the following year, undergraduates currently attending a four-year college institution, and graduate students. Employees, and children and spouses of employees, of EMA regular and associate member companies are eligible. To be eligible for awards this Fall, employees must have completed at least six months of full or part-time employment by March 1, 2012.  A child or spouse of an employee is also eligible if the employee has completed at least six months of full-time employment by March 1, 2012. Scholarship awards are limited to colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) is the not-for-profit international trade association dedicated to advancing the interests of the $34 billion home entertainment industry. EMA-member companies operate approximately 40,000 retail outlets in the U.S. and 50,000 around the world that sell and/or rent DVDs, computer and console video games, and digitally distributed versions of these products. Membership comprises the full spectrum of retailers (from single-store specialists to multi-line mass merchants, and both brick and mortar and online stores), distributors, the home video divisions of major and independent motion picture studios, video game publishers, and other related businesses that constitute and support the home entertainment industry. EMA was established in April 2006 through the merger of the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) and the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association (IEMA).
