Entertainment Merchants Association Bestows Honor on Versatile Actor

ENCINO, CA (June 3, 2014) … The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) today bestowed its Independent Career Achievement Award on Haley Joel Osment, who has worked in independent studio films as well as major studio releases, television shows, web series, and video games. The award was presented at EMA’s 2014 Independent Product Market at the Marriott Marina del Rey in Marina del Rey, California.

“Haley Joel Osment is one of the most versatile actors of his generation and has demonstrated a commitment to independent films through his roles in movies such as Home of the Giants, Misadventures of the Dunderheads, Sassy Pants, and the upcoming The World Made Straight, Sex Ed, and Me Him Her.” said EMA President & CEO Mark Fisher. “We are pleased to recognize him for his diverse career choices.”

Haley Joel Osment rose to fame at the age of 11 with his unforgettable Academy Award-nominated performance in M. Night Shyamalan’s ghostly thriller, The Sixth Sense. His portrayal of Cole, the little boy who saw “dead people,” left an impact on audiences and grossed over $672 million worldwide. In 2000, Osment went on to star in Pay It Forward, Steven Spielberg’s 2001 sci-fi drama, A.I., and Secondhand Lions. He later appeared in the movie Sassy Pants

In 2008, Osment made his Broadway debut in the revival of David Mamet’s, American Buffalo, and then took a break from acting and studied at the Experimental Theatre Wing at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors in Theatre.

In 2013, Osment returned to acting in Amazon Studio’s new comedy web series, Alpha House. Earlier this year, Osment co-starred in IFC’s, six-episode comedy miniseries, The Spoils Of Babylon.

On the feature film side, Osment will co-star with Minka Kelly and Adelaide Clemens in the David Burris-helmed independent drama, The World Made Straight. He will also star in Issac Feder’s independent comedy, Sex Ed, where he plays Ed Cole, a middle school teacher who is far from equipped on his subject matter. Sex Ed is slated to release this year. Osment recently finished filming a starring role in Me Him Her, the Max Landis-directed indie comedy co-starring Scott Bakula, Alia Shaw, and Casey Wilson.

Up next, Osment stars alongside Justin Long in A24 Film’s horror/comedy film, Tusk. Directed and written by Kevin Smith, the film is slated for a wide release this fall. And Osment recently wrapped Entourage, Warner Bros. silver screen extension of the award-winning HBO comedy.

Coming to home video this summer is Osment’s I’ll Follow You Down with Gillian Anderson, Rufus Sewell, and Victor Garber. In this drama, Osment plays Erol, whose scientist father disappeared on a business trip 12 years before. Erol makes a bizarre discovery – one that may bring his father home. I’ll Follow You Down will be released on video by Well Go USA Entertainment on August 5.
