Summary of Proceedings
EMA Board of Directors Meeting
April 17, 2008 - Los Angeles, California

The EMA Board of Directors discussed the following agenda topics and took the indicated actions at its April 17, 2008 meeting, held in Los Angeles, California.

1.Board Members

The Board welcomed new Directors Laura Orvidas (Amazon.com), Daniel Kaufman (GameStop), and Troy Peterson (Target Stores).

2.Financial Report

The Board reviewed the Association's preliminary financial performance for the first quarter of 2008. Trade show income and dues income were both better than budget and investment income was worse than budget, due to unrealized losses in the Association's investments. It was noted that current stock market trends present a risk for the Association's financial performance for the remainder of the year.

3.Home Entertainment Events Issues

The Board was informed that all major studios will be exhibiting at EMA's Home Media Expo 2008, to be held June 24-26 at the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas. Promotion of Blu-ray Disc will be a theme of the Expo. In addition, the Expo will have a Digital Media Day conference-in-a-conference, an extensive seminars program, an awards show, and indieFest and iDEA-branded seminars for independent video retailers. Home Theatre Forum will participate in the Expo and their events will be open to all attendees.

Staff noted that the 2008 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo performed better than expected financially.

4.Labeling and Packaging

The Board was updated on efforts to require clear and consistent placement of ratings information on DVDs, remind video content providers of the standards for UPC placement, encourage standard UPC placement on video games, and promote best practices in video and video game packaging from a loss prevention standpoint.

5."Green" Initiatives

The Board directed staff to report at each meeting on "green" initiatives within the industry.

6.Membership

The Board voted unanimously to accept the 16 membership applications received between October 8, 2007 and April 1, 2008. The Association currently has 482 members.

7.Committees and Councils

The Board reviewed the activities of the Video Game Retailing Council.

8.Presentations

The Board received presentations on the Sony Open Market initiative from Mitch Singer of Sony Pictures Entertainment and on consumer DVD purchasing trends from Erin Crawford of Nielsen VideoScan.

9.Ratification of Minutes

The Board unanimously ratified the minutes of its October 25, 2007 meeting.

10.Other Issues

The Board discussed federal "network neutrality" legislation and received written reports on iDEA, anti-piracy developments, and Association's government affairs and public relations activities.
