The winning entry in this year's Project: FAIR contest for an anti-piracy public service announcement was unveiled July 11 during the Opening Session of VSDA's Home Entertainment 2006. The winning entry, Good Stealing and Bad Stealing, was created by Dane Boedigheimer, a filmmaker/artist originally from Harwood, ND and now based in Bakersfield, CA. Using archival footage from a 1950 instructional short, What To Do on a Date, the public service announcement humorously distinguishes between instances of "stealing" that are okay and movie piracy, which is not. Good Stealing and Bad Stealing is available for retailers to display on their in-store monitors.

Project: FAIR (Filmmakers Against Illegal Replication) was a contest for filmmakers to create public service announcements that speak out against motion picture theft in imaginative ways that will resonate with the public. The contest gave filmmakers the opportunity to contribute to raising the awareness of the problem of Internet file-swapping of movies and bootleg DVDs, while expanding the reach and exposure of their creative works to a wide group of entertainment industry leaders and millions of consumers.
